Even now, at 62, I learn lessons in humility. As I learn more about how hard it is to be female, I appreciate more even little things my mom did that were admirable. I was so merciless on her when I was younger for not taking leaps and bounds, and now I understand more what was at stake, and why she didn't.

Oooof. Merciless is a good word to describe the way I've felt towards my older female relatives, coworkers, ect. Once I experienced the cost of freedom, I gained a whole lotta compassion for them.
